RELATIONSHIP AND REACTION

094

A research that explores the ability of different parts of cities to react to change related to the creation of large-scale services. The research takes on and analyses the relationship between the space in the city and the socio-economical conditions of those who live within some of Milan’s neighbourhoods. This research is based on the analysis and cataloguing of the neighbourhoods of the city that was dealt with in the Government’s Plan of the Territory of Milan and can thus be taken as a project and planning system of services at local level. The research is lead by Nicola Russi with Andrea Matteo Azzolini within the workgroup coordinated by Cesare Macchi Cassia in the 2009 Workshop on Railway Yards organized by the Faculty of Civil Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano, and featured in the book “Gli Spazi della Povertà (Poverty’s Spaces)” by Enrica Chiappero-Martinetti, Stefano Moroni, Giampaolo Nuvolati. Editor: Bruno Mondadori Editore.

laboratoriopermanente-0004

In 2008 and 2009 Nicola Russi worked for the City of Milan as a consultant for the PGT’s local projects.

The new general master plan for Milan has been designed by a team of architects and urban planners. Our urban design strategy has been primarily applied the development of the city through projects at a local scale. The upshot was a map in which zones are no longer delineated according to administrative borders but rather on the basis of social and cultural identity patterns. These areas have been called Local Identity Nuclei (LIN), a new city unit today in use in all the city planning offices.

GLI SPAZI DELLA POVERTÀ
Strumenti d’indagine e politiche d’indagine.
Edited by Enrica Chiappero Martinetti, Stefano Moroni, Giampaolo Nuvolati
 – Bruno Mondadori Editore.

Urban poverty is a problem diffused as much in the megalopolis of developing countries as in our cities. What do we know about the relationship that links space and poverty? How does poverty spread on the territory? Which policy can mitigate the possible negative effects between poverty of spaces and individual poverty? Which policy can support the potential positive relationships?
The volume edited by the principal experts on this issue, examines the relationship between poverty and spaces in an urban context.
The authors analyse some of the most relevant international contexts and then focus on Milan as a case study.
The book contains an essay by Nicola Russi titled “Relazione e reazione, un primo studio sulla capacità di reazione al cambiamento di parti diverse di città”
Research by Nicola Russi with Andrea Azzolini in the group coordinated by Cesare Macchi Cassia during the workshop on rail yards of 2009 organized by the Politecnico di Milano, regarding transformations indicated by the new “Piano di Governo del Territorio” of the city of Milan.
